Headwaters

Our 2011 edition of Headwaters Journal is now published. We invite you to purchase the newest edition through Orchesis Honor Society. To purchase a copy, please contact orchesis.appstate@gmail.com.

The land where we live in the heart of the Southern Appalachian Mountains gives birth to four rivers, including what is believed to be the oldest river on the North American continent. The nearby headwaters of the New River served as inspiration for the naming of this peer-reviewed journal offered by the students and faculty of the Appalachian State University Expressive Arts program. Like the headwaters of these ancient rivers, the expressive arts spring from the deepest sources of our creative spirit. Expressive arts therapy is an interdisciplinary integrative approach to counseling and therapy with its roots in our shared history of arts-based healing traditions. Headwaters offers a space to give voice to personal and collective journeys, honoring the inner and outer landscapes, celebrating arts in thd service of life. ~Sally Atkins
