I have always wanted to know how to make this particular quilt pattern for some time. My aunt taught me last spring break. My grandmother had taught her. My aunt is finishing a quilt made from scraps of fabric that were used in various clothing for all the members of the family in the past sixty years which was originally started by my grandmother. This quilt means so much to me because it holds the stories of lives I never got to know. While making this particular square I really felt a connection with all the women who have spent much of their life threading needles and sewing. I am reminded of all the stories my Aunt has told me about my family while bent over fabric, knitting, tatting, or ripping an old seam. Every stitch is different and originates from a different angle. I feel blessed and honored to know how to craft this quilt pattern because it encompasses so many textures of my life.
