This piece symbolizes the spiritual nourishment I receive in Nature. I was raised by a deeply devout Catholic mother; however, I never found the same meaning and the solace in the Church that she does. I have yet to find the Divine in any church, but I consistently find It/Him/Her in the sun filtering between the flaming leaves of fall, in the pregnant buds of my flower gardens in spring, in the tender fungus and lichens among granite outcroppings in summer, and in the stark black-against-grey of naked trees in the winter. My soul finds a serenity among the plants and rocks that it finds nowhere else. Nature grounds me. Nature is my touchstone, my cyclical reminder of all that is important and meaningful in my life.
