Art-Based Programming Responses to Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina

The Art Relief map is an evolving, online record of therapeutic art-based offerings that have emerged in response to natural disasters. The map began in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina, USA, in late September, 2024. Within the interactive map, facilitators' stories of art-based programming and artifacts (art products and images) are presented within the geographic contexts in which programming occurred. Purposes of the map include honoring a topography of healing that is uniquely facilitated through art-based experiences. The map is also intended to serve as a tool for research and education. For questions about the map or to contribute accounts of programming from North Carolina or beyond, please email Katie Biddle, biddleks@appstate.edu
